Experience
with My First 3D Art Project: Designing a Capacitor.
It was an
ordinary day when my phone buzzed with an unexpected call. It didn't take me
long to recognize the caller: Bangaru Babu, a senior graphic designer and an
icon in Hyderabad's design community, renowned for his extraordinary talent and
inspiring work ethic. I had always hoped for the opportunity to learn from a
doyen of the graphic design industry, and meeting Bangaru Babu and receiving
his guidance was a dream come true.
"Harsha,"
his voice crackled with warmth and authority, "I have a project that I
believe is perfect for you."
The task at
hand was to design a 3D model of a capacitor. The very thought of working on a
project for Bangaru Babu filled me with a mix of excitement and nervous
anticipation. This was my chance to prove myself, to show what I had learned
during my BA (Hons) Multimedia & Gaming at IACG College, JNAFAU, Hyderabad.
Bangaru Babu
was patient and encouraging as he explained the requirements. He wanted the
capacitor to be not just accurate but also visually engaging, with textures and
details that would make it stand out in a presentation. His guidance was clear:
"Focus on the realism, Harsha. Make it come alive."
I dove into
the project headfirst. Every moment spent on this task was a learning
experience. I meticulously crafted the capacitor, paying close attention to
every detail—from the metallic sheen of the body to the precise alignment of
the leads. I experimented with different textures, lighting, and rendering
techniques to ensure the final product was as lifelike as possible.
The process
was challenging, but Bangaru Babu's occasional check-ins and constructive
feedback kept me motivated. He had an eye for detail and a knack for spotting
areas of improvement, always pushing me to refine my work further.
After
countless hours of hard work, often late into the night, the capacitor was finally
complete. I nervously presented it to Bangaru Babu, hoping it met his high
standards. To my immense relief and joy, he was impressed. He also said, that
the client was totally satisfied with the 3D model.
"This
is outstanding, Harsha," he said, his eyes reflecting genuine
appreciation. "You've captured the essence perfectly."
As Neil Armstrong
after landing on moon said, “It is a small step for me, but a giant leap for
mankind.” The same overwhelming feeling enveloped me. That moment is a turning
point for me. Not only did I gain invaluable experience and confidence in my 3D
modelling skills, but I also earned the recognition and admiration of a great mentor
I deeply respect. Surely, the 3D project was more than just a task; it was a
testament to the power of dedication, learning, and the guidance of a great
teacher.
It is nearly
a week now, and looking back, my first 3D art project was not just about
designing a capacitor; it was about embarking on a journey of growth and
discovery, guided by the expert hands of Bangaru Babu, a true maestro in the
world of graphic design.
